substitutions or time-out requests. 6. Verbalize the color of the jersey and the number of the player who fouled. Verbalize the whole number (e.g. “Twenty-four” not “Two, four”). When reporting a double-digit number, simultaneously use two hands with palms facing forward, showing the first digit on the right hand and the second digit on the left hand, to indicate the number of the player who fouled. Single-digit numbers may be reported with either hand. 7. Verbalize the type of foul and give the appropriate signal. Use the same signal used at the spot of the foul. 8. If free throws are to be attempted, indicate the number of free throws. 9. While proceeding from the reporting area, the foul reporting official shall make eye contact with their partner and indicate the number of free throws awarded or indicate the throw-in spot. 10. If a player disqualification is involved, the ruling official has the option of going opposite side. If the ruling official chooses to go opposite, the non-ruling official will notify the coach, inform timer to start clock, notify player and administer substitutions. 11. If substitution is for disqualified player(s), the administering official will be positioned at the division line, near the center circle. C. Disqualification Procedure - When a player is disqualified by rule, officials should follow this procedure: 1. Notify the head coach of the player’s team, providing the number of the player who has been disqualified (as soon as this occurs, the disqualified player becomes bench personnel). 2. Notify the timer to sound the horn and begin the 15-second replacement interval and to sound the horn again when the 15-second replacement interval has expired. 3. Notify the offending player that they are disqualified. D. Reminders 1. The official shall use the stop-the-clock signal on all fouls prior to indicating the specific type of foul. 2. The free official shall freeze their field of vision in order to observe all players until the foul has been reported. 3. After leaving the reporting area, the ruling official shall assist with supervising the players. 4. Officials should avoid moving through or among the players. Move around the perimeter of the players. 5. Officials must always switch (change positions) following the reporting of all fouls. 6. After any technical, intentional or double foul, has been reported, the crew members should meet and confirm the proper procedure to follow. 7. A technical foul, direct or indirect, charged to the head coach results in the loss of coaching box privileges. An official must inform the head coach. 8. Crew should be aware and communicate potential bonus situation to partner(s), to ensure shooters are identified at the site of the foul. 9. Non-ruling official(s) should continue to observe the players while the foul is being reported. 10. When canceling a try, the ruling official should not verbalize “on the floor” and/or point to the floor to indicate the try is being canceled.
