IAABO Manual Signals Time-Out Sequence/Procedure
• Upon becoming aware of a request for a time-out, determine if a time out may be granted. If the time-out can be granted, simultaneously sound the whistle (only one blast) and raise one arm straight up displaying an open hand. • Locate and indicate the spot of the ensuing throw-in. • Attempt to determine which type of time-out is being requested. If there is no indication of the type of time-out, it shall be a 60-second time-out. • If/when the type of time-out is known signal the type of time-out. • Hustle to the reporting area. Stop. When both teams are at their bench area, then state the color of the team being granted the time out, signal the number of the player who requested or that the coach requested the time-out, signal the type of time-out, and signal the timer to start the timing device. • Officials assume proper time-out positions. • Upon the sounding of the warning horn, move two or three steps toward the teams huddle, and signal with a raised finger above the head and verbalize “first horn.” Move directly to the proper coverage positions in order to be ready to place the ball in play. Following intermission, interval of time, time-out and unusual delay the administering official shall always: • Make eye contact with the table officials and officiating partner(s), checking for and assuring readiness. • Sound the whistle. • Simultaneously verbalize the throw-in team uniform color and signal the direction of play. • Use proper signal to indicate if the spot designated or the thrower may move along the end line. • Award the ball to the Thrower.
