Throw-In
E. Throw-in spots following. 1. Intentional personal and flagrant personal foul. If the ensuing throw in is in the frontcourt, it will be administered at the spot nearest to one of the four approved designated spots nearest to where the ball was located when the foul occurred. If the ensuing throw-in is in the backcourt, it will be administered at the spot nearest to where the foul occurred. (see diagram pg. 118). 2. Technical foul, at the division line opposite the scorer’s table 3. Double foul, double technical foul, simultaneous foul, at the “point of interruption” to the team with team control. Point of interruption is defined as: that spot closest to “the location of the ball ” when the foul occurred. If the ensuing throw-in is in the frontcourt, it will be administered at the spot nearest to one of the four approved designated spots nearest to where the ball was located when the foul occurred. If the ensuing throw-in is in the backcourt, it will be administered at the spot nearest to where the ball was located when the foul occurred. (see diagram pg. 118). F. Throw-in administration. 1. Administering official shall visually “sweep the floor” a. Glance to table for substitute(s). b. Verify the correct number of players, for both teams, on the court. c. Establish eye contact with partners. d. Apply the “boxing in” technique (visual or physical). e. Signal the type of throw-in: 1. Designated spot (may use verbiage, if so, “designated spot”) 2. End line with no designated spot (may use verbiage “you may move along the end line” and use appropriate signal after time out or unusual delay) f. Put whistle in mouth. g. If following time-out, intermission or unusual delay, sound whistle, announce jersey color, signal direction and signal the type of throw-in. h. Raise hand to show keep the clock stopped signal using the arm farther from the thrower. i. Hand or bounce ball to thrower. (If the player muffs the handoff/ bounce pass, the throw-in shall be readministered.) j. Step away from thrower and begin throw-in count using the arm nearer the thrower. k. Signal to “start the clock” when ball is legally touched inbounds. G. Throw-in coverage 1. Administering official - provides coverage for the thrower and nearby players 2. Non-administering officials - provide coverage for all the players not in area of throw-in 3. Non-administering official - avoid delays to admit substitutes 4. If the court configuration makes it difficult for the timer to see the administering official, the Trail has the option to mirror the Lead’s start the clock signal. Note: The ball becomes live and the throw-in count begins when placed at the disposal of, or is available to, the thrower; the throw-in count ends when the ball is released by the thrower; the throw-in ends when the ball legally touches, or is touched by, a player inbounds or out-of-
