Jump Ball Starting Position

Tosser tosses ball higher than either player can jump, holds position, waits for players to clear the center of court. Partners take positions on opposite sidelines ( U1 tableside to the tossing officials left; U2 opposite side to the tossing officials right) in line with the 28-foot marks. U1 is responsible for ruling on toss, legality of the tap, jumpers and starting the clock. U2 is responsible for eight nonjumpers. Jump Ball - When Ball Clears to Tosser’s Right

U2 becomes the Lead opposite side. U1 becomes the Center tableside. Tosser continues to hold initial jump ball position until players clear and then becomes the Trail opposite side. Tosser ensures alternating possession arrow is correctly set.
