Secondary Defender Plays

The Lead is responsible for identifying potential secondary defenders in anticipation for block/charge plays. When a player drives to the basket, the Lead has primary coverage for plays in the lane area when it involves a secondary defender. Pass and Crash

The direction of the pass dictates coverage on pass/crash plays in the free throw lane area. (Left), The pass is toward the Center . The Center is responsible for the pass and any perimeter activity. The Lead is responsible for ruling on the contact in the lane. The Trail can also rule on this contact if they are in best position to have an open look at the play. (Right), The pass is in the direction of the Trail ; therefore, the Trail is responsible for the pass and related activity. The Center is responsible for ruling on the contact in the lane area.
